Steps to success in 2008 and in life

The team from Red Hot Business Coaching spoke about it.

Rex Pemberton, the youngest Australian to conquer Everest, spoke about it.

The power of setting goals.

The really interesting thing is that they don't need to be realistic or achievable. They can be outrageous, unattainable and scary! The tougher the goal, the more inventive we become at how we might approach it.

So, step 1 is to set the goal.

Step 2 is to identify obstacles & develop strategies for overcoming them.

Step 3 was to know what we are passionate about because this will provide the fuel to attain the goal.

The next step was to develop the plan with milestones to achieve the goal.

Finally, get started! A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step - Lao-tzu

You may not be aware that Saatchi & Saatchi have rebranded.

In recognition of the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup, Saatchi & Saatchi in Wellington have created an amazing experience.

The building has been rebranded Passion & Pride House.

Is passion enough?

I listened intently as the interviewer explained to the 75 candidates what it would take to be granted one of the 11 places at a special farm training school.

The word that stood out was PASSION.

He wasn't looking for the emotion. He was looking for examples of how the candidate had demonstrated their passion.

What had they done? How had they differentiated themselves? What had they learnt?

How do you demonstrate your passion? For your job? For your loved ones?

Think carefully about your actions, will others say: "WOW! They're passionate".

Do what you love and love what you do

Most successful people find something that they really enjoy and then do it really well.
If you are talented or interested in something, why not make a career out of it, or develop your own business with the 'something special' at its core?

Life is far too short to keep doing something you're not passionate about, it's like being in a marriage with someone you don't love.

How do you find that something special?

  • Ask people.
  • Brain-storm ideas.
  • Look back at when you were happiest.
  • Try different things.

The most important piece of advice - Get off your backside and do it!
